Oscar Nelson Álvares

(Guantanamo, 1941):

A well-known and widely respected primitive artist, Oscar Nelson has participated in more than 100 exhibitions in different art galleries around the country and won numerous prizes and mentions in provincial and national salons.

He was granted the Olga Alonso national prize and the award for Distinction in National Culture, and for his contribution to the development of art and a national culture in Cuba. Nelson teaches at the Regino E. Boti Provincial Art Center and gives seminars, workshops, and conferences in various academic institutions in Guantanamo and other provinces.
