Theresa Segal
Biography:
Theresa is a southern photographer who earned her B.A. in Art at Flagler College and studied photography at the Southeast Center for Photography at Daytona State College and the University of North Florida. Her work has been shown in museums throughout the State of Florida including the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, Cummer Museum of Art and Foosaner Art Museum in Melborne where twenty of her photographs are part of the permanent collection. Segal’s projects have included exploring rural Florida; the historic Saint Augustine neighborhood of Lincolnville and a cultural exchange with Baracoa, Cuba. Her subject matter includes landscapes, interiors and light studies. Most of her work has been in traditional photographic processes, though she is currently working with digital. She has received numerous grants for her work including a 2013 Artist Individual Artist Grant by the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida to help fund an exhibition of her current project, a photographic exploration of the Lightner Museum’s stored collections.
Style Description:
Theresa Segal employs a classical approach in her timeless images of landscapes, architectural subjects and light studies. They are deliberately structured and visually expressive yet always straightforward and unaffected, encouraging the viewer to experience a meditative stillness. Her love of the process is evident in her elegant black & white prints which are carefully crafted using a number of subtle printing techniques.
